Wineries and Vineyards
Leavenworth has become a great place for wine lovers and for those wanting to know more about Washington wines. In recent years the Leavenworth area has become home to at least eight wineries. Within an hour’s drive are at least eight more. In the village itself, the many area wineries have tasting rooms. And several wine shops also offer tasting events. With all of these choices planning a Leavenworth wine tasting tour weekend should be a piece of cake, right?
Make your reservation at one of Leavenworth’s outstanding Bed and Breakfasts.
In the morning be sure you eat a great breakfast, especially if you’ll be sampling the wine and not just tasting and spitting it out. If you’re staying at a hotel or inn that offers a complimentary breakfast, great! If not, consider O’Grady’s Pantry and Mercantile at Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat. Bring your wine country maps with you and plan your day while you eat on the outdoor patio in fine weather. O’Grady’s is a great place to pack up a picnic lunch for later. Be sure you add a bottle of local wine to that picnic.
Leavenworth and the surrounding area offer many incredible scenic drives with wineries and tasting rooms along the way. Take the drive deep into Icicle Canyon where you’ll find Boudreaux Cellars at Eightmile Creek. Call or email for a tasting appointment.
Off Chumstick Road, Eagle Creek Road leads to Eagle Creek Winery and Cottage. Be sure you have your camera along. You’re going to want to record the charming views and vistas all over the alpine region.
If you don’t have a designated driver along, you can book a wine tasting tour. A limousine driver will take you to three area wineries. It’s an affordable and safe way to enjoy Leavenworth wine country.
In addition to wineries and wine tasting rooms there are several wine shops that offer some sampling. Monaco’s Corner Store and The Cheesemonger’s Shop are two. At the Cheesemonger’s you can pick up a bottle of wine, some German beer and a lovely selection of imported cheese and cured meat.
Blue Sky Outfitters has an interesting tour…a Wenatchee Whitewater and Wine Tour. It starts at Kestrel Vintners then takes a whitewater adventure down the Wenatchee River between Leavenworth and Cashmere with what sound like some big water. At the end of the tour you change into dry clothes and have a sirloin BBQ with corn-on-the-cob, wine and all the trimmings.
