In Leavenworth, every season provides a new adventure.
There are a remarkable number of different kinds of sports and recreational activities in and around Leavenworth. Whether you are looking for walks to take, casual day trips with the kids, golfing, or even extreme sports, there is something around Leavenworth for you.
Want to get to know the Leavenworth area better, perhaps on cross-country skis or snowshoes? Leavenworth Outfitters has been in the outdoor adventure business for almost 30 years. They provide guide and outfitting services every season of the year. In winter explore on groomed trails or in open country. In the spring and summer take scenic float or kayak trips. Leavenworth Outfitters have dry suits and booties available for rent and guided river tours and wildlife safaris for all ages.
The mountains surrounding the Wenatchee Valley offer downhill and Nordic skiing at Stevens Pass or Mission Ridge.
Did you know Leavenworth has a ski jump hill? Leavenworth Winter Sports Club offers an alpine ski area with two rope tows, ski jumping hill, tubing hill and 26 kilometers of groomed Nordic trails.
In the fall, take to the forests for hunting, and the mountains for mountain biking. It's a beautiful time for hiking as the leaves turn reds and gold. Icicle Outfitters and Guides can set you up with hunting, fishing and pack trips. Or drop into Der Sportsmann to pick up a rental bike and get some tips on the best places to ride at Mission Ridge.
Throughout the spring, the mountains around Leavenworth give opportunities for hiking and picnics, as well as rock climbing and mountain climbing in extremely challenging terrain. In fact, Northwest Mountain School is in Leavenworth, where you can get training or hire guides that have led expeditions around the world. Walk along the river in Waterfront Park and watch the birds during the Leavenworth Bird Festival.
In the summer those same slopes provide biking, mountain biking, trail rides, and camps for the kids, like Ingalls Creek Enrichment Center, while the lakes provide water skiing and fishing. And several companies, like Osprey Rafting, provide rafting equipment or rafting trips from casual float trips to white water rafting. Or for a more laid back time, there is always golfing, either at Leavenworth Golf Club or at the world class Enzian Inn Championship Putting Course.
Stevens Pass Bike Park is open Fridays through Sundays during the summer months. They have two mountain bike trails open and continue to build. The completed trails are intermediate to advanced. Follow the progress on Facebook.
Here's another organization you should really check out – Peak 7 Adventures. Peak 7 Adventures is a grassroots outdoor adventure non-profit organization aimed at taking young people into the wilderness to show them the wonder of God's creation. Wilderness adventures challenge participants to expand their horizons by fostering trust relationships and team building skills. Peak 7 targets youth who are underprivileged or have been labeled "at-risk". They also provide outdoor adventures for families and individuals on a "space available" basis.
