Third “Leavenworthy” Award

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

We wanted to find a way to reward people or businesses who show the true spirit of Leavenworth. We have deemed them “Leavenworthy“. It is not an award you can apply for, it must be earned. When we come across people or businesses we think have gone above and beyond, we will list them here and provide them with a picture and link they can use on their website to advertise that we consider them Leavenworthy.

Our third Leavenworthy award goes to Fudge Hut. Fudge Hut is one of our favorite places to go in Leavenworth. Every time we go, we need to get our fudge fix. The on-going Fudge Hut in-store special is to buy a pound of fudge and get a half-pound free. This time we brought home 3 pounds of fudge! Two things that were Leavenworthy: Fudge Hut changes the types of fudge they make depending on the season, and the key lime fudge. It was the first time we’d had key lime fudge and it didn’t last very long.

Wenatchee World recently ran an article about them and their recently expanded Bakery Creations section.

Fudge Hut is a Leavenworth staple and definitely Leavenworthy.

Second “Leavenworthy” award

Our second Leavenworthy award goes to Leavenworth Summer Theater’s Sound of Music. We have been to Leavenworth Summer Theater’s A Christmas Carol, but we have never gone to one of their outdoor productions. Why did we wait so long? It was a wonderful experience to watch Maria walking down the mountain singing at the start of the show and to see the whole Von Trapp family flee up that same mountain at the end of the show. Great show and Leavenworth Summer Theater is truly Leavenworthy.

Congratulations to Leavenworth Summer Theater, our second Leavenworthy award award winner.

We were in Leavenworth last week for Maifest and we found a business we consider Leavenworthy.

Our first Leavenworthy award goes to SOUTH restaurant. SOUTH provides free wifi 24 hours a day and a couple benches outside the restaurant to sit on while you check your Email and Facebook. While we were in town for Maifest, our hotel didn’t have wifi access, so early morning and at end of day, you could find us sitting with our Macbook outside of SOUTH catching up. Oh, and we had a great lunch there on Sunday… loved the mole sauce and the pork tacos.

Congratulations to SOUTH, our very first Leavenworthy award winner.

Wow! Two years of dreaming and planning and hoping has come to fruition. Accidentalbavarian.com is live! Scotte and I have been working on this website for many months. Thanks to Scotte’s programming skills and persistence and with friendly encouragement from The Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce we’re all set to help other unsuspecting travelers to become Accidental Bavarians themselves. Check out our hard work. And let us know what you’d like to see on the website in the future. In the meantime, Wilkommen in Leavenworth!

This Week in Leavenworth

Friday, February 1st, 2008

I was reading this morning about all that is going on in Leavenworth this week (February 2008). I’ve been snowbound here in Spokane for about a week now. The snow keeps falling. How I wish I was snowbound in Leavenworth instead. One of the activities that caught my eye was Nordic Walking. I wasn’t entirely sure what it was, so I Googled it. What did we ever do without Google?

So what did I find? Nordic Walking, also known as Pole Walking, Ski Walking, or Fitness Walking, is defined as fitness walking with specially designed poles. Nordic Walking, practiced by about 10 million people world wide, can be done year round and in any climate and anywhere you would walk without poles. The poles provide stability and balance. Nordic Walking is easier on hip, knee and ankle joints. Back pain is eased with the use of poles. You can read more about Nordic Walking in Wikipedia.

A free Nordic Walking group meets in the parking lot of the Leavenworth Ski Hill Tuesdays at 8:30am and 6:30pm. Beginners can meet for free instruction one half hour before the group meeting. You can find out more about the Nordic Walking group and many other activities at the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce website. On my next trip to Leavenworth I’m going to check out these and other great community activities.
